2010 KVMS Award Winners

Congratulations to all 2010 KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT members for participating in the 2010 Points Series. We hope you had as much fun as we did. Both Club Champions had to work hard this season to keep their lead as 2nd Place was right on their heels. This positioning made for fun and exciting inner-club competition.

(back row) Allen Goans, Nikki Moore, Royce Kallerud, Marilyn Mihalovich;
(front row) Donovan Gaines, Lauren Gaines; (not pictured) Bob Keogh, Deb Holte

Male Champion: Allen Goans
2nd Place: Royce Kallerud
3rd Place: Bob Keough
Youth: Donovan Gaines

Female Champion: Marilyn Mihalovich
2nd Place: Deb Holte
3rd Place: Nikki Moore
Youth: Lauren Gaines

I must admit when the season started I didn't care much about the points because I was a beginner runner. However, as the season progressed I found myself asking Allen where I stood in points after every race. I ended up 5th overall and was pretty surprised at how much I improved over the year.

Not a member yet? Wait no longer, print out the membership form below and mail it to us right away. There is an entire group of multisport friends just waiting to meet you and train with you!

Stay warm and safe this week!

Brooke (and Allen too)

2010 Point Series Awards Lunch

Please join us for the 2010 year-end social as we award the top men, women and youth that competed very well this year and got our community and surrounding areas talking about KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT.

This is a dutch treat lunch with full menu selection. We'll order first and then present awards. Door prizes will be won randomly throughout the lunch... be prepared to have a good time!

An RSVP is much appreciated so we can prepare the banquet room accordingly. Please email Kirksville Multisport directly.

Thank you!

Point Series Schedule 2011

There are so many multisport events out there... how do we choose?  Well, we're starting to plan the 2011 Point Series Schedule and would like your input.  We know you'd like to visit more neighboring cities and I'd like to include a few bike rides as well.  Let us know some of your favorite events that other KVMS Members would enjoy.  Contact Allen Goans with your suggestions.  Thank you!

New Group Run Forming...

Are you a morning runner?  This run is for you!  There is a new KVMS Group Run forming on Thursday mornings at 6:15 am.  Meet in the north parking lot of the Adair County Courthouse in downtown Kirksville.  Each run route will be 50 minutes long (25 out / 25 back).  All runners and speeds are welcome.  If you have any questions, please e-mail us and we'll get back to you.  Thank you Royce and Tony for initiating this group!

If you'd like to create a weekly group activity... please, let us know and we'll support you 100%.  Enjoy the fall weather.

NEW Weekly Workout Schedule

Due to ever changing schedules, we've rearranged the KVMS weekly workout schedule.  The track workout has moved to Mondays; Allen and Ivy are both teaching spin classes at TCC on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and weather permitting, bike night will probably continue well into October.  I've noted the schedule changes to your right.

We realize our schedule doesn't necessarily work with your schedule, but we're wide open to you, the KVMS member, creating a workout group of your own.  Let us know what you've got planned and we'll post it here on the blog and send out reminders via email and facebook.

One more thing.  KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT is vacating the office in downtown Kirksville.  If you need to get a hold of us, please send an email to kvmultiport@gmail.com.

2010 NEMO Triathlon

Are you a fan (or like) KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT on Facebook?  If not, you should get connected! Janis K., Kirk R., Erin C. and Jason S. have posted photos and a video documenting KVMS at the 2010 NEMO Triathlon last Sunday.  We are so lucky to have such talented athletes AND photographers among us.  Thank you all so much for sharing!

Points Series Update

Here's the latest update on the KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT Points Series.  It breaks down the rankings by men and women, includes the number of races each member has participated in, the points and bonus points scored at each race.

Hope this helps with your race strategy for the upcoming Run Through the Jungle Points Series race. Cheers!

Random Ramblings

The points have been calculated and I'm working on getting them posted so those participating Members will know where they stand going into the Run Through the Jungle race on Saturday, September 4th.  It's actually the next race in our KVMS Points SeriesThanks, Bob, for pointing that out.

As KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT grows in Membership, we would love for you to get involved.  If you would like to lead a group swim, evening bike ride or weekend run, please do!  We'd be happy to send an email to the Membership to advertise your event.  That's what being a Member is all about. For instance, last weekend in preparation for the upcoming triathlon, we took out two boats for an open water swim at the lake, then we rode the 18 mile bike route and ran the 5 mile course.  It was well attended and everybody had a great time.

One last thing, there are lots of new and returning people to Kirksville, please encourage your friends and family to get involved in KVMS.  Membership is only $10 and we can do amazing things in numbers.  Swim. Bike. Run. For Fun.

Enjoy the cooler temperatures and see you at the races.

Upcoming Events...

Check out the list of upcoming events to your right... there are lots to choose from!

The next event in the KVMS Points Series is the NEMO Triathlon at Thousand Hills State Park in Kirksville, Missouri.  We encourage all KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT members to participate.  I've been told they plan to create a points breakdown for those on teams as well as those who do the entire event by themselves.  This is great news (for me) because I plan to ride for a team again this year!

We also received a few brochures promoting a new 5K/10K Fun Run and 2.1 Miles Walk sponsored by Mercy Medical Center in Centerville on Saturday, September 25th starting at 8:00 am.  Feel free to swing by for a brochure, or call (641) 437-4422 for more information. The official name is "In it for the Long Run - Mercy Pancake Day Fun Run".

STARS and STRIPES MARATHON

The Kirksville  STARS and STRIPES Marathon/Half Marathon is next on our KVMS Points Series event list.  Are you considering running or walking the race?  We would love to have you participate in any way you see fit.  The deadline for early registration (and a $10 savings) is June 15th.  Not only do you save $10, you also help us plan for the overall event.

Originals Paper Art and SOS Editorial Services have put up a total of $600 in prize money for first place mens/womens marathon and mens/womens half marathon.  If you were on the fence about running... perhaps this will be a little incentive.

[  ] $200 First Place Marathon / Men
[  ] $200 First Place Marathon / Women

[  ] $100 First Place Half / Men
[  ] $100 First Place Half / Women

We've also added a map to the KIRKSVILLE MARATHON website.  It's nice to have both verbal directions and a visual map... check it out when you get a chance.
