Points Series Update

Here's the latest update on the KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT Points Series.  It breaks down the rankings by men and women, includes the number of races each member has participated in, the points and bonus points scored at each race.

Hope this helps with your race strategy for the upcoming Run Through the Jungle Points Series race. Cheers!

Random Ramblings

The points have been calculated and I'm working on getting them posted so those participating Members will know where they stand going into the Run Through the Jungle race on Saturday, September 4th.  It's actually the next race in our KVMS Points SeriesThanks, Bob, for pointing that out.

As KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT grows in Membership, we would love for you to get involved.  If you would like to lead a group swim, evening bike ride or weekend run, please do!  We'd be happy to send an email to the Membership to advertise your event.  That's what being a Member is all about. For instance, last weekend in preparation for the upcoming triathlon, we took out two boats for an open water swim at the lake, then we rode the 18 mile bike route and ran the 5 mile course.  It was well attended and everybody had a great time.

One last thing, there are lots of new and returning people to Kirksville, please encourage your friends and family to get involved in KVMS.  Membership is only $10 and we can do amazing things in numbers.  Swim. Bike. Run. For Fun.

Enjoy the cooler temperatures and see you at the races.

STARS and STRIPES MARATHON

The Kirksville  STARS and STRIPES Marathon/Half Marathon is next on our KVMS Points Series event list.  Are you considering running or walking the race?  We would love to have you participate in any way you see fit.  The deadline for early registration (and a $10 savings) is June 15th.  Not only do you save $10, you also help us plan for the overall event.

Originals Paper Art and SOS Editorial Services have put up a total of $600 in prize money for first place mens/womens marathon and mens/womens half marathon.  If you were on the fence about running... perhaps this will be a little incentive.

[  ] $200 First Place Marathon / Men
[  ] $200 First Place Marathon / Women

[  ] $100 First Place Half / Men
[  ] $100 First Place Half / Women

We've also added a map to the KIRKSVILLE MARATHON website.  It's nice to have both verbal directions and a visual map... check it out when you get a chance.

Moonlight Bike Ride/Walk

JOIN THE FUN THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!

Calling all Kirksville community! There is a fundraiser noncompetitive MOONLIGHT Bike Ride or Walk for FLATS (Forest Lake Area Trail System) on Saturday, April 24th from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.  Participants receive an event t-shirt and bike light!  This is a great chance to show your support for bicycling and walking in Kirksville!

FLATS is working to connect Thousand Hills State Park to Kirksville without having to travel on highways (6 or 63) and will use the funds we raise on a section of the trail in Thousand Hills State Park and for planning the entire route.

You may register in advance through Brenda Snider . . . you can get the flyer/registration from the sponsors of each of the stops on the ride or from this page: Kelly's Furniture, ATSU Thompson Campus Center, HyVee, Adair County YMCA, or from Brenda at American Trust Bank (on the north side of town).

The ride is 12.3 miles around Kirksville while the walk is 4 miles total to Washington Street Java Co. and back to the Health Center. All stops/sponsors will have snacks, beverages, and entertainment. Helmets and lights (we will have lights if you don't already) are a MUST for safety. Participants must obey all traffic regulations.

2010 ARISE Race Results

The ARISE event was not a designated race in the KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT Points Race Series, however we wanted to highlight the participation and results of our members in this local race.

We've been told this will be an annual event and we'll most likely include it in the KVMS 2011 Points Race Series. It was a fabulous event and it was SO nice to have the bike leg included... I'm more of a biker than runner, so I'd love to see more races like this one! Thank you Ernst and Charles for putting this event together!  Cheers!  -Brooke

See you at the Frost Bite 5k

From the sounds of it we'll have a great showing of KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT members at the Frost Bite 5k this weekend. Look for Allen, Bob, Janis and I... we'll all be sporting our KVMS colors! Allen, Bob and I are running and I think Janis mentioned taking pictures. Of course, I may change my mind if this snow doesn't go away soon!

Our membership is growing quickly and it's so exciting... lots of new faces coming out of the woodwork. If you haven't joined yet... just bring your membership dues with you on Saturday and you'll be included in the 2010 Points Race.  If you don't care about the Points Race and still want to join... please do, we'd love to have you.

And on another note... I added a link to the Stars and Stripes Marathon race in the column on the right.  It's not entirely complete, but wanted to get the basics out there so everybody can start planning and training.  As always, contact any of us with questions.

KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT race gear has arrived!

It was like Christmas at the KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT office yesterday when UPS delivered our race gear package. We ripped it open eagerly to see all our stuff! Here's a quick look of the race gear being unpacked.

Allen Goans holds up one of the many race gear items.  Another gracious thank you to all the sponsors who believe in KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT and the multisport lifestyle.

Here are a few of the dedicated KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT runners. They broke in their race gear at the Thursday Night Run.

(Meg, Nikki, Royce, Bob, Janis and Allen)

We did order a few extras of certain items, so if you're interested, please contact Allen to see what's available.  We'll be ordering again in the next few months... so if we don't have your size, we can order it next time.

Happy Halloween!

Race Report: Roots 'n Blues Half Marathon and 10K

Multisport fans, a contingent of 13 traveled to Columbia to post finishing times in last Saturday's(9/26/09) Roots 'n Blues Half Marathon and 10K. The questionable early morning weather (read: rain) made for interesting races and turned the beginning of the last mile of each race into a steeplechase, but everyone survived, I think, and fun times were had by many or most.

Both courses started in downtown Columbia at 5th and Cherry, proceeded down through the Mizzou campus, cut behind the football stadium, over the footbridge over Providence, down the hill, and onto the trail system linking up with the KATY trail. The half-marathoners continued into the wilderness, then climbed Chapel Hill Road twice in two different locations, bookending a roller coaster run up hill and down dale in subdivisions, before finally levelling off at Forum, going downhill on Stadium, then rejoining the trail a mile from the finish, when we all entered a water-filled tunnel at the one-mile-to-go point for both distances. The last muddy mile to Flat Branch Park was a dash for the gold, or bbq at least.

The results for Kirksvillians are as follows:

(Allen Goans posted the fastest KV half-marathon time, hotly pursued by Ernest Motley. Megan Reilly did the honors for the fastest KV 10K time [and snared the first prize in the F30-34 division], with Caleb Todd only 2 places back. Bob Keough lucked out with a first place in the M55-59 division for the half, despite a lacklustre time. He'll keep the award, though.)

Here are the details:

10K Race: Time Place out of 306

Meg Reilly 49:29 31st
Caleb Todd 50:01 33rd
Camrion Carolan 59:26 120th
Lynda Konecny 1:01:13 138th

Half-Marathon: Time Place out of 653

Allen Goans 1:38:18 33rd
Ernest Motley 1:38:31 34th
Bob Keough 1:42:40 55th
Ashley Smith 2:01:25 222nd
Kandice Robinson 2:01:32 224th
Marilyn Mihalovich 2:10:41 363rd
Sara Sweet 2:21:57 494th
Jessie Schoonover 2:24:27 523rd
Sue Floyd 3:03:12 638th

Congrats to all Kirksville participants for representing the community, and for all loyal fans for your capable support. Next up on the Multisport radar: Truman Homecoming Bulldog 5K, October 10th, 2009.

Where do I fit in?

I decided to write a quick post to share my thoughts on the KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT group.  My name is Brooke, I'm Allen Goans' wife.  Allen is very athletic and has been competing for years and I've been an active spectator (pictured above) and shutterbug at every triathlon, marathon and fun run and love it!

I encouraged Allen to get behind his passion of the multisport life and start something that shares his love of the sport with others and  it left me wondering... where do I fit in?  I'm not competitive at all... and isn't that what it's all about?  Absolutely NOT!  It's about living an active lifestyle and surrounding yourself with others that share the same passion.

Being surrounded by the multisport life, I discovered my love of biking a couple years ago.  Allen and I have ridden both the STP (Seattle to Portland) bike ride and RAGBRAI (Bike Ride Across Iowa).  This year I even joined a triathlon team and rode the bike leg.  My new challenge is running.  I told a friend I would run a half marathon next June in Seattle and now it's time to start training considering I've never even run a 5K!  So, for me it's about participation, not competition... and that's where I fit in!

It's solely up to you to take from KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT what fuels you and meet great people while doing it!  We're a group of individuals that love swimming, biking and running in northeast Missouri!  If you share this love... join us at one of our group workouts... we have a good time.  And, please, spread the word!

swim. bike. run. for fun.

The 25th annual NEMO triathlon is yet another memory. Kirksville was well represented with 37 entries, and took home 9 medals. This years triathlon was held in near perfect conditions and record turnout. As always the competition that shows up in Kirksville is tough, which makes the race all that more enjoyable. To see how your favorite triathlete did, check out the results here.

It's now back to business as usual. Join us at the KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT workouts on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. See details to the right.

Thursday Night Group Runs

Another staple event for KIRKSVILLE MULTISPORT is the Thursday Night Group Run, currently starting at 5:30 PM at the Goans/Keough offices in the Grim Building, 113 E. Washington St., just off the Square. The general idea is for the lead group to run 6 to 7 miles and others to run the approximately 42 to 50+ minutes at a proportionate distance, so that everyone arrives back at the start in approximately the same time. Dinner as a group often follows. Join us each Thursday!!
